Overview

Bushy Park – Tallaght

3 km

The upper section leads towards the Dublin Mountains, with wider river corridors, weirs and wooded margins. Tallaght serves as both a commuter hub and a destination, with cultural and sporting amenities. Together these stages form a spine through south Dublin, linking the city centre with outer suburbs and green spaces, encouraging both short trips and longer journeys.

The Dodder Greenway is an ambitious urban project creating a 14km continuous walking and cycling route along the River Dodder from the Dublin Docklands to the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. Following one of the city’s most historic rivers, the Greenway will connect residential neighbourhoods, parks, workplaces and schools, offering both a commuter corridor and...

The public lighting to the Dodder Valley section of the greenway is operated on a needs based system due to the ecological sensitivities along the Dodder. Due to the prescence of Daubenton Bats which are a protected species the lighting system is operated via sensors to ensure they are only on during hours of darkness when users are present. When a Greenway user approaches a section of lighting the first 4 lights switch on, as they are midway through this section the next 4 sets alight. Once the person has completed their journey through the lights they switch off and revert to darkness.
