Closure Area

In 2026 approximately 2km directly south of Edenderry, generally from Blundell Aqueduct to Downshire Bridge, will be closed to the public. Following completion of this section, anticipated in Q3 of 2026, the works will continue east of Blundell Aqueduct. Following this, from approximately Q3 2026 until Q4 2027 (anticipated), 4.6km of the greenway will be closed from the 20^th Lock (Ticknevin) to Blundell Aqueduct.

Who is affected? 

This closure applies to pedestrians and cyclists at all times.

Alternative Route:

Greenway users are recommended to divert from Ticknevin Bridge into Edenderry, to rejoin the canal via the Edenderry Branch.
